3 post alternator question

Just wanted to confirm that I have my alternator wired up correctly. My 85 Trans Am has a choke light, which I wired to the #1 terminal on the alternator. Terminal #2 has a jumper from the direct battery feed post. Can anyone confirm this is how it is supposed to be? I'm not sure if the car has a battery light, I thought it was just the choke light.

Re: 3 post alternator question

I also heard people mention that there would be a resistor in series with the #1 terminal wire, what is the purpose of the resistor? Is the choke light not enough load and the circuit acts as almost a direct short when the alternator fails and thus there is a resistor for additional load?
