Berlinetta Turn signals not working properly

My 1985 Berlinetta is having issues with the turn signals.

When I slap it up for a right turn on the pod it works just fine and comes on, however it does not turn off automatically after a turn. I have to slap it down as if I did a lane change to turn it off. When the car is turned off and started it resets to off.

The left signal only comes on is I hold it down with a fair amount of pressure and will not stay on by itself.

Interestingly, when it is cold it requires less pressure to hold down the left signal.

Is this an issue with the pod itself or something else? I have tried cleaning the contacts with Radio Shack Contact cleaner and lubricant after removing the pod but the turn signal contacts are difficult to get to. I have sprayed directly into the front of the pod but none of this seems to help.

It sounds like your turn signal cancel cam is broken. You have to partially disassemble the steering column to get to it.

What NoEmissions84TA posted was the turn signal switch, listed with the turn signal stalk aswell. This is what the cancelling cam looks like:

Actually a pretty easy install, remove the steering wheel and hub, then the lock plate, the cancelling cam is depressed by the lock plate so the old one will slide right off the steering shaft.

Re: Berlinetta Turn signals not working properly

There is a spring inside the switch assembly that holds the plastic cam "pointer" centered & I've seen it fail more than once. The GM part number for the digital Berlinetta cancel cam switch is 1997048. This is for the cruise control version - not sure about the # for the non-cruise version.

You can still find new replacements being auctioned off on the web.

Re: Berlinetta Turn signals not working properly

Thanks for correcting FluffyK. I searched RockAuto for "turn signal cancel cam" and that was all I got back.

Re: Berlinetta Turn signals not working properly

I managed to find the part number 'TS235' for the digital Berlinetta Cruise Control turn signal cancel cam.
