I think my reversing switch is bad. I popped open the hatch for the first time in a long while. At first I didn't have any activity from the pull-down motor, then it went up after a few seconds. When I went to close the hatch, it did not pull down at all.
I fiddled around with it for quite a while. I noticed that when it is connected to the motor the relay clicks on, then off when I disconnect it. I verified that the motor works by applying juice to it manually. I also verified that the limit switch the hatch actuates appears to work. I have no schematic but things happen when I press and release it while probing with a meter.
My Camaro is a late model 91 so it has the same pull-down setup as the 92s.
Anyone know how to properly troubleshoot this issue, or where I can get a new switch. Mine looks like this:
I had similar problems. I drilled out the rivets on the case of the reversing switch. After you open the case there are some contacts that can be cleaned. I used some fine sandpaper to get everything very clean. Then I applied some dielectric grease to the contacts and used some screws to replace the rivets. Been working for a few months now with no issues. Be careful when you open the case there is a spring like part that can fly out.
If you search for hatch pull down reversing switch rebuild I think you will find some other posts with some more details on the procedure.
