I got to the wiring part of putting my ‘84 TA back together and have a headlight question. My car had the 3 relay system with all relays mounted on core support or front of inner fender. The headlight motors have this 3 wire plug.
I have another ‘84 TA car I bought to use as a reference in putting my car back together. This car has 3 relays but two of them are mounted on the headlight motors and the motors have a single wire plug.
I knew early 80s firebird headlight motors were different than later years but I never knew there was a difference in headlights / wiring for 1984. Is one of these two different systems better in any way? Trying to decide which wiring and headlight assemblies to put back in this car. Seems like it would be nice to have the relays mounted on the motor - less visible clutter in the engine bay.
Thats strange. Could the motor with the single plug be from another GM vehicle? I have an 84 as well and have finally sorted out my headlight woes. The 3 wire factory system is working great now.
Both cars were unmolested original 1984 Trans Ams and the wiring harnesses weren’t cut up or modified. Seems these were two different designs in the same year for some reason. Trying to figure out if one was a “newer” design or something.
