Got my first car recently, an all original Firebird w 305 and 98k miles. I drove it about 45 minutes recently and i noticed the console was hot in one spot. Upon inspection I found that this metal part in the ashtray was blazing hot. What could cause this? I couldn’t keep my finger on it for more than a second
thanks
That's the light for the ashtray , and since it's bulb is enclosed in that little metal shield to let it shine into the ashtray only rather than to throw light everywhere , yea it's gonna get hot .

Wow thanks! I’m glad it wasn’t a problem. I really like my car
Might check the bulb to be sure it's the right # for the application. Sometimes people will use a bulb because it fits not realizing there are different wattage bulbs that all look the same. But seeing how it's not exactly the first bulb most people would rush to replace, chances are pretty good it's the oe part.
