Connector lock tabs breaking - work arounds?

I've been in and out my engine bay countless times and never broken a tab, yesterday I broke two. Ugh. Maybe too much coffee. Anyway, what are some resources to look into as repairs/hacks/work arounds? My M.O. has been to ignore the lock tabs and just insert the connector as they tend to stay in anyway but I would like some kind locking assurance.

The connector tabs get brittle with age and exposure to heat. Most of them are rear entry not pull to seat.
mouser has them as well as eBay Delphi or under packard weather proof.
you can get a listle removal tool or tools available on eBay. Note wire orientation with letters on the body of the connector.
