85 firebird 2.8l mpfi code 34

My 2.8l mpfi firebird has been running really rich lately and the exhaust stinks like un-burnt fuel. And a while ago it threw a check engine light at me after about 30-40 minutes of driving. I popped in a paperclip to check the code and it flashed me a code 34. I found a few lists for obd1 codes on 85 2.8ls and they all said the code was vaccume line/ map sensor failure. I went to napa and found map sensor and it said it fit my car. but today when it arrived in the mail i couldent find where it fits. either the pictures i looked at didnt show the same sensor i had or if they did i looked in the same spot and there was no sensor there. and when i looked on autozone and put in my year, make, model, and engine size ( as well as mfi) and the sensor they had looked exactly like the one i ordered. so where does this sensor go? if i even have a map, if not what is code 34? Pictures would be appreciated. Thanks!

Duke , you've been duped !

Send that MAP sensor back , your car does not use MAP , you have a MAF that will be the basis of your code 34 . You will find your MAF sensor in the air induction plumbing that leads from the air cleaner to the throttle body , most specifically just behind the radiator towards the right hand (passenger's side) of the car .

34. Low voltage (high vacuum) at mass air flow sensor (1985)

Check the MAF in-line fuse: 20 AMP. Should be mounted on the RIGHT side of the engine bay, on the inner fender panel. RED wire leads from the power junction to the MAF fuse,... then a BROWN wire out leading to the MAF Relay. MAF Relay should be mounted on the pass side radiator support in the engine bay; Wire colors are PINK/Black stripe, BROWN, BLACK, and ORANGE.

I've got a few used V6 MAF sensors so LMK if you can't find one reasonably priced locally.

With the poor quality of aftermarket mafs your better off with a used delco.
