Tach / Oil Pressure gauge problem
Getting really close to firing up the new 383 in my 1989 IROC after a long restoration that went all the way to a bare shell and back. Was preoiling engine on a drill and had the key on to see oil pressure on the gauge. oil looks good at the rockers, but the tach appears to be registering oil pressure as it moves when we spin the oil pump and the oil pressure gauge doesn't move at all. We have tried 2 gauge clusters - v1 with a new circuit board and 1 with an original circuit board and even threw a spare tach/oil pressure gauge at it. On some combos the oil pressure gauge got very warm, but not on all. Just to eliminate variables, we also tried another sender and got the same result. The car was a 5.7 TPI Automatic and is now a 383 with a T56 6 speed. Also had a custom chip burned by a reputable tuner based on my new engine and trans specs. I'm perplexed. Anyone have any ideas?
