How to easily replace '82 Instrument Cluster?
How to easily replace '82 Instrument Cluster?
Hi all, I want to swap out my original instrument cluster and replace with a reconditioned duplicate '82 instrument cluster.
Anyone know how to replace the cluster without knuckles getting messed up or worse messing up the printed circuit
board on the back of the replacement cluster when its installed? Thanks for any responses! (1982 Berlinetta model)

I have taken mine out a few times, it isnt too hard. Drop the steering column, I think there are only 2 nuts holding it up if I remember right. Take off the plastic covers and your there. Got to take mine apart here in the next week to fix the tach and install new overlays. If your still needing help when I do mine ill get pics and more info as I do it. As my dad used to say "Just work slow and easy and remember it didnt grow that way".

Thank you Sir. I never thought of lowering the steering column!!! Great idea, does this also make it easier to disconnect the speedometer cable from the back? The replacement instrument cluster was checked by an outfit in Tampa, I wanted to make sure the tachometer on the replacement was working properly, I have replaced the filter under the hood but I am hoping that the new tach doesn't get blown out, some say I don't need the filter, what is your thoughts?? Again, sincerely, thanks so much for your response. Velour interior is completely redone, I am up to getting the car ready for repaint. Take Care, Stay Safe!!

Honestly I dont remember how it was getting the speedo cable off. Seems to me that there was enough slack in the cable to pull it out far enough to get it. It has been several years since I have done it and my memory is not what it should be. Its hell getting old lol

Thanks for the reply, I have had this car since 1985. As for age, tell me about it, I am 77 going on 78. Take 24 pills a day and jab myself in the stomach every 15
days, golden years, more like aluminum years! Thanks for all your help, it sat for several years, rodents cut all the wires, got it running though, finishing it is going to be a challenge! Take Care, Stay Safe, Bill.
