If the gauge is pegged, it means that there is an open circuit in the oil pressure sender circuit - either the wire is severed, not connected to the sender, or the sender is defective.
When you say pegged, do you mean all the time? Or just when driving at 2000-2500 RPM? Mine is pegged when driving, but drops down to 45 or so at idle. Could the motor being rebuilt 2 years ago have anything to do with that? Or the fact that the car is an 82 with cluster from an 87? Maybe i should just change my cluster back, but it did it before the change.
