Hi there!

All out of nowhere, my courtesy light fuse keeps blowing instantly when i connect the battery - and i can not figure out why. The car is a 1982 Camaro.

Can someone please tell me what this circuit powers? Is it only the lights inside? My speedo background lights does not work either..

Also when i turn the interior light dimmer switch, whit ignition off and light switch on, this happens. It "dims" the voltage.. is this correct? What is happening? When i turn on the ignition and dim the lights, this does not happen. See movie in attachments.

Re: Courtesy light fuse pops - HELP!
Courtesy light fuse powers all the interior lights, cigarette lighter, radio memory, maybe power antenna motor (I don't recall). Basically, mostly low-power things (except for the cig lighter, which draws kind of alot of juice) in the car's interior.

The circuit is an orange wire. Almost everywhere that there's a wire that color, it's that circuit.

Aftermarket stereo stuff including amps, and aftermarket alarms, are the first thing I'd go look at. Not so much the eqpt itself, as the wiring. Look for hack jobs exposing bare wires all around any such things.

Re: Courtesy light fuse pops - HELP!
When my fuse kept blowing and killing my dome light, etc. I read on this site that the lighter socket seems to have a way of shorting itself out and causing all those problems. You have to unplug the socket on the back of it. Keep the plug safely protected from shorting out as the wire is always hot. Now try a good fuse. If this works you can either leave it not working or replace with a good one. I think I may still have some good ones left if needed.
Hope this works for you! Good luck!

Re: Courtesy light fuse pops - HELP!
Cool, glad to help. Like I mentioned, if you don't have it connected, make sure the connector is well insulated from shorting out as that orange wire is always hot.
Have fun!
