Fuse block relocation
Fuse block relocation
I bought my 92 z28 a few years ago. The engine was rebuilt before I purchased it and as a result, there are some things that do not work still. Anytime I have to troubleshoot an issue with wiring, it's very difficult to do when wiring goes behind the engine where I can't access it, even from below, and the wiring inside goes behind the dash. I don't quite understand why the fuse box is on the driver's side and the wires exit the firewall there and go all the way to the passenger side to connect to the ECM through the fender hole when it could simply go to the passenger side inside and come out the firewall there. Most of the connections are on the passenger side anyway. My question is why was it done this way? Wouldn't it be easier if the fuse box was placed on the passenger side, either outside or inside? The ECM is on the passenger side? Why the rats nest?
I'm no mechanic nor am I an engineer. Is there a reason for this? Has anyone moved their fuse box and relays to different locations throughout the engine bay/interior? I'm looking to ease troubleshooting issues. I probably don't make sense.

How does cutting all your wires, moving the fuse panel, extending all the wires.... and you're going to do this all by yourself too..... help improve reliability of your wiring?
I think your frustration has made you delirious. Get a bowl of ice cream and really think this over....

Re: Fuse block relocation
Ugh. To keep this short and simple...
Back when Automobiles still ONLY had 1 Bussed-Electrical Center, and 1 PCM...
The Bulk of each could be separated to a side of the Car.
Power Distribution, C100, IP-BEC, Headlamp Switch, High-Beam Switch, Ignition Switch, all on the Driver's Side.
PCM, PCM Wiring-Harness, on the Passenger's Side.
1. Power and Signal Circuits are mostly isolated.
2. Service: Fuses could be serviced from the Driver's Side with the ALDL, Hood Release, and Ignition Switch Lock Assembly.
