Alternator Upgrade Question
Hey guys,
Looking to upgrade my alternator, I was looking at this one from Hawks - https://www.hawksmotorsports.com/198...ut-alternator/ at $174 + Shipping
I was wondering if this is the same one as this - https://www.summitracing.com/parts/pwm-47861 which is $138 with free shipping.
Trying to save some money, but also not looking for headache.
Looking to see if they are the same, and if the cheaper one can be installed without any clocking or trouble.
Also, is it normally smart to upgrade charging and ground wire during this time? I am not planning on really maximizing the power of this alternator at this time.
Thanks for the help!

Re: Alternator Upgrade Question
If you have a serpentine system, I'd look into anAD244. Search on it and you'll find some threads that document the conversion. I did it a couple of years ago and it's a great setup.

Re: Alternator Upgrade Question
Both of those Alternators are the Delco Model CS130.
Unfortunately, the CS130 Alternator ended up being the worst Design Alternator that GM ever produced.
I highly recommend avoiding this Alternator (even though they were OE for some of our Cars).
Go with the Newer ACDelco Model AD230 (If not with in your Budget, than go back even Older... to the Model 12SI Alternator).
GM later produced the Delco Model CS130D Alternator...
Which implemented some needed corrections/ updates/ upgrades over the Earlier Design CS130.
The remanufactured and Aftermarket CS130 Alternators that are sold today...
Most often have some amount of corrections/ updates/ upgrades to prolong life, and hopefully last for a Warranty Period.
If you are willing to go to a larger Alternator...
Both the Delco Model CS144 and ACDelco Model AD244 are both excellent Alternators.
With the Newer Design AD244 Alternator being slightly superior.
