1985 Camaro

I’m having issues with my headlights on my 1985 Camaro. When high beams are on my headlights cut in and out when I go to low beams they stay on just fine when I put them back on high beam and unplug a headlight they all stay on except the one unplugged. I’ve swapped out the headlight connectors thinking that was the problem due to them being really badly corroded but nope not the case. Only other things I can think of would be the headlight switch, bad battery or a bad ground. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Are you running stock type headlights, or are you running aftermarket higher powered ones?

There is a self resetting circuit breaker built into the headlight switch, which is what's shutting off your lights. If your running aftermarket lights that draw more power than the stock ones do, that would explain the circuit breaker being activated. If this is the case you'd do well to look into the "Headlight Relay Mod" which will solve that issue. If your running stock lights, with no modifications to the wiring that would have both low & high beams on at the same time, and you have no shorts to ground anywhere in the headlight wiring, then it is possible the circuit breaker in the switch has gone defective and is "Nuisance tripping" (One way that breakers fail is by tripping at less than rated current) .

Re: 1985 Camaro

They are stock Sylvania halogen headlights. I changed out the dimmer switch and it seemed like it was longer before the headlights started going on and off again. It’s just weird how I can have my high beams which has all lights on and I unplug any headlight and the three remaining stay on with no issue what so ever. I’ve thought about replacing the headlight harness itself thinking maybe a short but then again I don’t think it could be that either. Idk I’m stuck.
