91 Harness Routing
Anyone re route the starter wires on the harness that runs between the passenger valve cover and runners to the back of the block instead and under headers or manifold? Any issues?

Re: 91 Harness Routing
All the older V8 cars are like that, at least.
The harness that ends up at the starter goes across the back of the block at the bell housing flange bolts and through a little metal tube right above the starter. Different breakouts break out of it as it goes along, including the wiper motor, the ones along the VCs, etc.
No idea how a 91, specifically, is wired. Nor a 6-cyl (you don't say what engine you're interested in): don't think I've ever even seen one of those in the flesh except briefly at a junkyard, before I averted my eyes in shame.

I had a 91 z28 tpi, iirc there just isn’t enough room to reroute the wires away from the manifold if the wires are routed like old sbc for example 67-72 trucks went through a metal tube by the starter. Some applications work but depending on exhaust.

Re: 91 Harness Routing
Interesting. As of now the wires start on the harness that runs across the firewall.. then this one splits off at the passenger side head close to coil and runs between the valve cover and runners , giving power to the ejectors, smog, and ac compressor, then through the acc bracket under the AC compressor and under the exhaust manifold to the starter...

Re: 91 Harness Routing
when you say older V8s, specify...
No idea how TPI would render any of that of any concern. The factory bolted all of those harnesses to the engine long before the engine was put into the car. Which of course is why they're such a PITA to work on once the engine is installed... once the engine is installed, there's now a CAR in the way of getting to them. I know of no TPI feature whatsoever that extends below the "China wall" where the intake meets the block that makes it different from any other intake system. The exhaust manifolds on a TPI car are essentially identical to L69 ones, except for the EFE valve, which if it's not there, should actually give MORE clearance in that region, not LESS. All of those harnesses in all older cars - not just F bodies - took the route I just described. If 91s are routed differently, it must have been for some convenience factor at the factory (sorry for the bad pun) that I'm not aware of. There's no reason whatsoever that the starter wiring CAN'T be routed that way in ANY SBC vehicle, as far as I can see. (which I freely admit is only a few miles most of the time)
