firebird headlight door issues . . .
firebird headlight door issues . . .
Ok, I'm almost out of electrical issues, I swear!
The headlights on my '87 GTA light up, but the doors won't always open. Every now and then they will randomly work, but it's never a sure thing. If I crank them up by hand, they will lower themselves automatically when I turn the lights off, but not go up again!
Also, though it might not be related, the pass. side light motor runs for a few seconds every time I turn the power on to the car. Even when the light switch is "off"
Any clues about his one?????
Thanks,
Don

A pretty common problem that's starting to happen due to the senior age our cars are getting. it's been discussed alot here if you do a search on it.
Here's the most recent topic about it..

Unfortunaly, it seems Steve's website is down (I think he's rediong it or something). he had a good tech article about rebuilding them but, you can get a general idea of what's going on by reading the post anyways.
One of these days I've got to redo both of mine as well.

My drivers side headlight motor was doing what you described: not going up, but going down after being manually cranked. I went to a junkyard and replaced the motor.... It's a pain because you have to take the whole headlight assembly out and the bolts are not exactly easy to get to. Also when I put the assembly back in it wouldnt go up because it was hitting the hood.
