Ok here is yet another problem with my car...the only way that my wipers will work is if i haold down the washer tab....before when they did work the switch worked backwards..ie.off was high and high was off...i think that the column is not original and might be from a camaro...would this be the likely problem?

 

as a thought, loosen the bolts that hold the wiper motor to firewall and the tighten them down again. if you see any obvious corrosion, remove the bolt entirely and polish the metal surface with some fine sandpaper.

ground path for wiper motor on older general motors products is through one of the retaining bolts.
