Weird coincidence...help
Weird coincidence...help
The camaro I bought was recently broken into and the stereo was stolen and the steering column was broken into. The guy put in a new steering column, but I think there is a key switch problem.
Here it goes:
I stall the motor because I suck at driving stick (I am in third when I think I am in first). Then I put the car in neutral and push down on the clutch to start it again. I turn the key and nothing happens. THEN I open the door and close it. I turn the key and the engine starts. What could be the problem? Is the door thing a coincidence? I tested it in my driveway ten times and that seems to help the problem.
I know the alarm doesn't work but it is still connected. Also there was a kill switch installed but then it was disconnected. I checked the starter wires and they are bolted to the firewall (were touching headers). Can any of these be the problem or is it just a steering column thing. What would be the $$ for fixing this?
Thanks

it sounds like there has been alot of wiring changes made and most likely something simple like a bad connection or splice, I would start there and check everything for proper connection and insulation (I.E. taping joints). it sounds like when you close your door you may shake the car just enough to make the connection touch and give the correct response.

I know on my firebird the clutch pedal has to be pressed to the point of touching the floor before the switch on it will let me start it (I'll adjust it one day I guess). Maybe you're just not pressing the clutch in far enough.
Other than that.. I'd have to side with redbird about a bad connection somewhere.
