91 RS headlight switch/dome and interior light problem
Hey guys. I did a search and came up pretty much empty and I hope you can help. I'm having a problem with the lights in my car, sometimes the dome light won't go off when the door shuts or when I rotate the dimmer switch to turn them off. I can usually get the problem to stop by pulling the headlight **** out and turning the lights on and them pushing it in really quick, "slamming" it in there. This has drained my battery before but I keep an eye on it now. Is there anything I can do before I just replace the switch? Any way to clean these things?
Thanks.
Ed
Thanks.
Ed
there's a small white wire on the headlight switch that provides a ground path when domelights are turned on using headlight switch. if this wire is cut, domelights will no longer be able to turn on using headlight switch.
as another hack, you could remove all the domelight bulbs and keep a flashlight in the car.

yeah but that will keep them form turning on at the switch if you cut thw white wire at the switch, now how about if the dome and courtesy lamps are stuck on all the time ?! what the heck causes that if the headlamp switch seems fine and the door switches look good too ?
has the car ever had an aftermarket alarm system installed?
on thirdgens the orange wire at each domelight socket always has +12 volts supplied from the courtesy circuit fuse. The light is switched on and off by selectively supplying a ground path on the white wire.
if problem is consistently there, can try some diagnostics.
Remove the headlight switch and disconnect plug from switch, do domelights still stay on.
Remove both pass & drivers kick panels and pull the connector off the back of the pin switch. are the lights still on? drivers pin switch will have two output pins, one is for key in ignition buzzer warning other is for domelights. pin switch outer case is grounded because it is screwed into the metal door jamb of the car.

Yes it does have an alarm in it. I'll look into it.
Thanks all for the replies and get back toyou sometime. I have to rebuild my Iroc's suspension first.
