400 sb and other go-fast parts

The following is similar to an ad I have placed on KY Fbodies.org

Something has come up where I need to sell the short-block by no later than Sunday, Dec. 16. The parts are for sale locally and the guy considering them does have first shot.

THIS WEEKEND ONLY---ONLY---$1,250 FOR THE SHORTBLOCK.

THIS WEEKEND ONLY---ONLY---$2,000 FOR THE SHORT BLOCK AND FASTBURN HEADS.

YOU PICK UP. CASH. NO CHECKS. NO MONEY ORDERS. NO SHIPPING.

FIRST ONE HERE WITH THE CASH GETS THE STUFF.

A few years ago, I started building a 400 small-block for my GTA. Gathered parts over a couple of years but the last four or so years have been in a holding pattern due to placing much of my available time and interest in my place of work (which was soon SUPPOSED to be half mine).

In order to try and prepare for what may be a legal problem (and I really hope not) I must consider selling some of my inventory of parts. I hate to consider this but must.

I'll start with the 400 short-block. It's a 1975 2-bolt block. I traded a running big car (that became a demo-derby car) for the engine. I took the block to a local parts store to be checked for cracks and to make sure .030 would clean the cylinders.

The store ended up boring it .030 without my approval (I just wanted it checked) and there was still a very small scratch that did not clean-up. They sleeved that cylinder. I was not very happy.

I then took the block to Bailey's Machine Shop in Temple Hill (KY) where he checked the work and straightened out the issues I was handed. He had to go .040 on all cylinders in order to "square up" the sleeved hole.

THE BLOCK WAS NOT AND IS NOT CRACKED!

I ended up spending about twice what was necessary to get a useable block.

The crank needed turning, going .020/.020. The rods are brand new (well a few years old now) Eagle 6" H-beams with ARP bolts. The pistons are SRP forged D-dish. Calculated compression with the heads I have for use would have been right at 10.4-1. The pistons and rings are new as well.

Bailey balanced the entire rotating assembly with a good balancer and a brand new SFI automatic flywheel. The block was decked.

Of course, new cam bearings and freeze plugs. A new Melling Hi-volume pump and pick-up, along with new drive-shaft for distributor and a good stock oil pan.

The short-block has been together for a couple years. I realize it will be difficult to get back what I have in it but I will list what I do have in it and will entertain REASONABLE offers. Don't try to low-ball an offer. I don't have to let this stuff go but I am preparing to, just in case.

Pistons, Rods and Rings---right at $1,050
Machine work at Bailey's---right at $600
Machine work at parts store (I won't count this)---right at $350
Oil pump, pan, timing chain, freeze plugs, etc---right at $100
Original car traded to engine---$200

So, I have Between $1,900 and $2,000 (not counting the parts store) in this short block.

Any interest?

The heads: I have a brand new (well, a few years ago) set of GM FastBurns. Search Google for a detailed description. Uses regular and Vortec intake pattern. Big port intake, D-port exhaust. Have flow numbers. Port matched.

Gave $1,250 plus shipping, Bailey's Machine Shop has done a better valve job for even better flow. The stock springs were for .525 lift but I was in the middle of getting springs to handle .600 lift. Did not get them yet.

Any interest in these heads?

The cam: A TPIS ZZX late-model (small-nose) hydraulic roller. I bought this cam used several years ago. Gave about $160-$170 plus shipping.

Any interest? I see this cam sell for that or more, even used.

New set of Crane hydraulic retro-roller lifters. Only used to mock -up short-block. Gave $315 plus shipping.

Crane roller rev-kit. Gave $40 plus shipping.

Two (2) sets of mid-1980's Corvette valve-covers. One set perimeter bolt, one set center bolt. Both sanded cleaned and painted with a silver/grey paint.
Have nearly $200 in both sets.

Edelbrock vortec TPI intake. Very ported to match the FastBurn heads. Gave about $425 plus shipping. New.

AS&M TPI runners. On the car right now. Would take off the car for the right money. Gave about $400 plus shipping.

Third-gen TPI passenger and driver side accessory brackets. Gave +-$60.

Third-gen small distributor. Gave about $50.

Please note. UNTIL the short-block sells, I WILL NOT consider selling the "little stuff". DON'T ASK, PLEASE.

I would really consider a "package deal". Nearly $5,000 worth of stuff there. Would get right on a package deal.

I live about an hour from Bowling Green, KY and a half-hour from Glasgow, KY. About 1-1/2 hours from Nashville, Tennessee. Post replies here. I check this site about once a day in the evening.

Please don't respond if you are not serious and near the price I have in the items. Remember, Until the short-block sells, I won't consider selling the little stuff.

I wish I wasn't in the situation I'm in. I didn't cause the problem but I'm getting fallout from it.

Now, any interest in the GTA? https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/fire...s-goodies.html

Thanks for reading.

OH, ABSOLUTELY NO SHIPPING. Read again. NO SHIPPING. I want you to come look at the parts, in person. NO PICS. A few people on this site still remember me. I am a 51 year-old straight-shooter.
