FS: Billet Chevy Flywheel, 168 Tooth!

For sale is a new Billet Steel flywheel, 168 tooth for a small block chevy, 1piece rear main, internally balanced SBC motor. This is for the '86 - '92 block. Paid $339 from summit (link below for more details).

Selling because I ordered the wrong flywheel for a 383 project. Upon starting one time, it was immediately determined an externally balanced flywheel was needed

I have the receipts showing I bought the correct one for my build just a couple weeks after this one. It's part number is RAM-1531, really not alot of options for an internally balanced flywheel for a 1pc rear main.

Would like $225 plus shipping, I don't want to hang onto it too long in fear of Florida's humidity will start rusting this thing...

Shipping details, $35 pounds from zip 32832, box size 7x18x18. Please use UPS.com to determine your own shipping costs. I travel for work so Tues-Thurs it will be hard for me to ship it those days, so patience is appreciated.

Thanks for looking

Re: FS: Billet Chevy Flywheel, 168 Tooth!

Pardon my naive question -- what's the difference between a internally balanced and externally balanced flywheel?

What would constitute the need for one than the other?

Going to swap in my 355 (1989 L98/Vortec heads) -- one piece main and a TKO-600.. Perhaps this flywheel will help me?

Thanks for the question! I am by no way an expert on the subject matter, but it depends on how your crank and pistons are balanced. I believe this flywheel in particular would benefit someone with custom crank work that has a fully balanced rotating assembly, then they would need this neutral (or internally balanced) flywheel.

My understanding, from the factory the 305's and 350's with a 2 piece RMS were internally balanced motors (needing a neutral flywheel). Motors like the 400 and 383 are usually externally balanced. I believe the factory 350's with the 1 piece RMS require an externally balanced flywheel (sounds like your category).

It would be worth calling a machine shop first, but I imagine taking a neutral flywheel and adding a counterweight could make it setup for an externally balanced build as well.

Hope that helps some!
