Cleaned up a bit with napa aluminum brightener.

 

Ok dumb question. Is this needed to swap to 3rd gen rear disc?

 

These particular backing plates are rare and out of production. If you are even half way thinking about getting them then just get them. It will allow you to put LT1 Camaro rear brakes on a 10 bolt axle.

 

I'm just very new to this stuff and wanting to be careful. Like do you have to use a specific hard to find caliper for them, same with rotors etc.

 

Last couple years of the the 3rd gen Camaro/Firebird had better disc brakes and these are the plates that work with those. Same brakes as used on the first few years of the 4th gen Camaro/Firebird with the LT1 engine.

It's pointless though if you're going to swap to later LS1 Camaro brakes or anything of those later generations.

All I'm saying is if you keep your car a while it's nice to have options open to you and having these backing plates in a nice thing even if you don't use them now. I would have bought them as spares for myself if asking less money.

 

The 89-92 calipers are extinct. The 93-97 calipers are still available, for now...
