need fuel pump and sender

'89 Firebird 2.8 V6 MPFI.
Fuel system is not holding pressure and gauge doesn't work.
Car starts and runs OK but I like things to be right.
This all started when I had no fuel pressure and traced it to a blockage in the fuel rail caused by the goopy stuff at the bottom of the fuel pump getting into the system. Don't ask me how it got by the filter! There was no filter sock on the sender bottom and I never could find it in the tank.
BTW I didn't take out the suspension or take the tank out - I just cut a hole in the trunk top middle, fuel pump's right there!

I've got a tank pick-up,....... $70 + shipping.

I would suggest a new pump...... It's a gamble to go with a used unit !

Re: need fuel pump and sender

Just a note: after I cleared the fuel rail blockage I traced the no holding pressure to the fuel pump. I had so many problems with fuel pressure I now run a fuel pressure gauge in the dashboard! Pressure's fine while running but as soon as the engine's off it's "0". There were also some wiring issues at the sender so I thought I would be a smartass and solder 'em, I guess that's what ruined the fuel gauge relay.

Re: need fuel pump and sender

regulator is fine then

pump dying most likely

i have a couple good pumps from good running cars if youre looking for one for like 25 bucks mailed?

TPI and MPFI run higher system pressures than other fuel systems such as TBI , etc,. highest is at cranking starting time

[and it should hold all or most of the pressure for at least a minute or two, typically, once the ign switch has been placed in the run position to prime the fuel system -via the command signal power from ECM/PCM to the FP relay timer

lemme know if you are looking for any parts maybe

i am currently cleaning out my building and storage here of all the good parts i have saved over the years from vehicles ive parted owned or junked

will ship it from 62656 here

48 states

or to anywhere else if you take care of the extra mailing costs

text me 217 671 7792 or fastr68 on yahoo messenger anytime?

i have some other random misc 82 83 84 bird parts too, so try me?

Re: need fuel pump and sender

Thanks for the offer! I'm getting a "new" pump (probably reman) thru NAPA. Don't want to even take a chance on a 20+ year motored part!
