Take a look at the E-Brakes 'main' cable in this pic & notice that it's got a metal sheath,..... I believe this is a 82-88 drum brake cable.
Now look at this pic, Notice that the sheath is covered in black plastic. ( That's not the only difference, the cable length is different and so is the way the cable fits into the cable sheath.) This is the same cable that's original to my 88 GTA with 82-88 Iron Calipers.
The cable with the black sheath is slightly shorter than the Cable without a black sheath. This is all the information that I have about this; I've never attempted to swap one for the other and there is just 2 things that I'm SURE about...... 1) my 88 with Disk brakes has a cable with the black sheath, & 2) the black sheath style cable is slightly shorter than the non-sheath cable.

It's adjustable so it will fit both. I went from drum to disc without issue
