carb to TPI need advice

ok guys.. do to CA emissions im forced to change a few things. i have an 86 305 5 speed. in its original state it was a 4b carb. the previous owner decided to ditch the EGR, PVC, Fuel purge system, the stock intake manifold, and the stock carb.

he replaced the intake with a Edelbrock performer intake with the EGR port blocked off with a plate, and a 600cfm Holley carb electric choke, a K&N air filter, but the smog pump and headers are all intact and original. He changed the rear end also to a 10bolt with disk breaks. the car hauls ***!!! i had a 95 Z28 all stock, and this 86 is not as fast but.. fast.

Now since i live in CA this is NOT smog legal... what are my options? Money is a factor.. im not poor.. i have money.. but im not Donald Trump.

my 1st thought was to go to TPI set up.. my second thought, is there anyway i can make this engine smog legal in CA?? I cant register the car till i get it smoged.. if anyone can help me id be more than greatfull... if there are any books or guides on this.. that would help out a college kid greatly.. thanks guys.

Depends upon how much else he butchered when he took out the CC carb and distributor. If the harness is all there, and the ECM and sensors (including O2) are intact, you could put a CC q-jet, HEI, EGR valve on as well as a snorkel-type air cleaner, and as long as everything works properly (including your SES light and cat), you should pass.

You could also go with the TPI conversion. You'll need a lot more parts, but if a substantial number of the factory carb CC parts are missing, it wouldn't be much more work (although the in-tank fuel pump raises the ante a little).

One way or another, you need computer controls to pass emissions.

Why anyone would take off the PCV is beyond me. I have one on my completely non-emissions '57 BBC.

from the factory.. the car was originally a 4 cyl. the previous owner swaped that out for a 4bb 305 from a firebird.. but then made all the changes i listed in my 1st post... so the harness is not the same at all...

any suggestions?

i was going to change it to a TPI 305.. but im not sure about the harness.. i know i need a new one.. but my question is..

" do i rip out all the wires in the engine bay ?"
" do i have to use a different fuse box as well ?"
" what about the interior wiring ?"
" will i need a new distributer ?"

anything you guys can help me out with would be awesome!!
