Big block 3rd genners please help!!
What is the biggest primary tube header they make for our cars? Hooker is only 1 7/8 and I need a 2 1/8 or at least a 2. I also posted in the exhast forum but most don't seem to have big blocks so I thought I'd try here to. Thanks, I really don't want to have to make headers!!
For 2-1/8" your going to have to go custom.
The only 2-1/8" set I know of that will fit a factory car is QwikTrips custom built tri-Y Lemmons headers, and they only fit automatics. $750 but I heard there was a price increase to $850 or something.

Big tube headers are big prices even for SBC. My 1 7/8" Hooker Supercomps work fine. If you're producing over 700 hp then you should consider going to a bigger tube but it would have to be a custom fabrication like Qwiktrips.
Since there isn't a lot of room for big tube headers, you could buy a kit and fabricate your own. It would probably end up costing about the same.
I've considered it myself. Cut the inner fenders behind the strut towers and have the headers go over the frame and exit behind the front wheels. A lot of the early Novas as well as 55-57 chevs did this because there was no room between the frame rails.
Although I never got a chance to look under the hood, I saw a car last year at the track that had the headers exiting in front of the front wheels. I would have loved to see how he did that. Apparently there was no other way to get big headers under the car.

I have 2 1/4" headers for my car. They are a tight fit. Ed Quay makes them but you have to run his motor mounts or engine plates because they lower the engine for added hood clearance. I paid close to $600.00 for my set. I just sold another set of 2 1/4" headers for a stock frame car. Go to www.edquay.com for any details. I've talked to Lemon Headers. Their headers are made for an engine that is in the stock location. They can hook you up with any size primary you want. You can even get a stepped header at no extra cost. He can even hook you up with the right motor mount if needed. They are a little expensive though. I think they run $850.00 for any size, stepped or not, up to 2 1/2". You can ask Dan any questions in the message forum at his website www.lemonheaders.com

Lemons headers only makes one header that fits in the car without heavy modifications. That header is the Tri-Y I have. They designed it for me. The others wrap around the subframe.
My headers have 2-1/8 inch primaries. I am in the process of selling my big block to an interested party. If it sells then I will sell you my headers (unused), if you like. If you are interested then shoot me an e-mail at littleborgy@yahoo.com
