ZZ-3 crate motor
ZZ-3 crate motor
I have a chance to get an brand new ZZ-3 motor for my Z-28,
my car presently has a 88 5.7 tpi, i was wondering if the tpi will work well with this engine.
IE; what is the cam in the ZZ-3 is it tpi compatible??
any help would be appreciated

Really, a new ZZ3? They went to the ZZ4 a few years ago, if it truly is a ZZ3, it must be "new/old stock".
The issues you'll face:
1) Intake base bolt pattern (not a big deal, just something that has to be done). The ZZ3/4 heads have the '86-earlier bolt pattern.
2) No exhaust cross-over passages in the heads. You'll have to plumb exhaust up to the base to feed the EGR valve. A Vette '86.5-later base will solve both 1) & 2) with an external line from the exhaust manifold/header.
The cam will work with TPI (same as ZZ4). You'll probably want an adjustable fuel pressure regulator for tuning purposes.

The engine has been sitting in my friends basement for a couple of years-he won it in a dealer raffle and he had a car to put it in but, he just told me he wants to sell it so....i'm thinking id pick it up for my car.
