How much did you pay for your 350...
How much dough did you hand over for your 350 and how many miles were on it when you got it? Also, what kind of automobile did it come out of? I'm looking for a 350 for my 84 Z28 to replace the L69 and am trying to get an idea for what I'm going to have to dish out for a good one.
Thanks.
Thanks.

$200 for the core out of a medium duty truck, 1900 at the machine shop to completely rebuild it (which includes an extra 350 for the line and stress plate boring and 60 for the cam). 2G's total for a 4 bolt main with windage tray, new pistons and balanced bottom end, rebuilt heads with roller cam. Every bit as good as the performance parts crate motor, at half the price. Forget the Goodwrench motors... they're fine for your mothers Caprice...but you don't save all the much, and don't even think of winding them past 4500 RPM or you'll drop a valve or send a rod out the oil pan.

My 350 costed me $1000. Came out of a Caprice 9C1 cop car. 48K miles on it. I bought a set of LT4 heads and and intake for $900. Traded my SLP Dual CAI for an LT4 Hotcam with springs and sold the springs for $100 since the LT4 heads had springs on them.

$2000 for a ZZ4 shortblock+LT4 hotcam, shipped. Another $2000 for AFR 190s, lifters, rockers, oil pump, water pump and all brand, spanking new, top of the line aftermarket crap, including gaskets, Accel 24lbs injectors, Holley 52mm TB and too much stuff to list. A friend had a project car that he gave up on, so he sold me all his stuff for pennies on the dollar.

GOOD, used 350's are hard to come by, I went ahead and spent $2100 for a GM Performance 350 HO Base (330 hp) from Jegs. Add another $900 for Heddman heders, TCI torque converter and a rare, double specific vortec- to- TBI intake. Now how do I feed that motor with my smallish TBI?

I have never paid more than $150 for a 350 core, and usually not more than $50. I've also never bought one as a "running" or "runnable" or "rebuilt" motor, let alone as a ready-to-run new one, but I have sold newly built, ready to run ones for anywhere from about $500 to about $3000 for the short block. I have gotten several for free, some as labor payment for doing something, and a few just sort of appeared. I think all the others I had around at the time must have been having some fun late at night
A 350 for a 84 Z28 could come out of any vehicle that had one in it. The most direct swap would be a motor from about 79 up to 85, those years would have the correct rear main seal and oil dipstick location.
Whatever you do, don't buy the cheapest one you can find. If you do, you'll get .... the cheapest one you can find. Kind of like nuclear power plants: the only thing about them that really bothers me, is that they're built by the low bidder. I've seen some really low-bid motor work in my day, and some of it I would pay someone to get rid of it for me, rather than paying to get it.

i spent right at about 1000 to rebuild mine, including machine work, bought the cheap 350 rebuild kit from northern auto parts for like 155$ the intake, carb everything is stock, most expensve part is machine shop, reground the crank, bored it .060 over and head work, granted its not the fastest car in my town but its a 350 is reliable and does good burnouts
....doing it this way got it back on the road quickly and now i have a 350 so future mods will be an easier decision
