all lg4 2 piece main seal?
ok i got a 85 TA with an lg4 and a 5 speed. im taking the engine out and replacing it with a 350 from my 79 Maro. the 85 5.0 looks like a 1 piece seal, but shouldnt it be a 2 piece? are all lg4's 2 piece main seal? the flywheel from th 5.0 is a 153 tooth and wont fit the 350 which had a 168 tooth flexplate. whats up with my engines/trannys?

153 or 168 tooth isn't the issue with regard to bolting it to the crankshaft. Rear main seal type is. Tranny isn't affected either way.
Like Guy said, '85-earlier should have been two-piece. It's possible the engine was replaced at some point with a later style (under warranty, for instance).
Are you sure it's a 305? I'd check the casting # if I were you.

Crate motors don't count, because even a new crate engine can be for the older applications. The low-end Goodwrench 350 crate, for instance, is two-piece for '85-older applications (just like it says in the brochure).
Checked the numbers found out that the 85 really was a 85 with a 2 piece and that the engine out of my 79 had been replaced with an 86 350 at some point which is what confused me, thanks for the help.
