Is it possible?

Ive been doing a lot of research on my stock TBI motor and it just doesnt match up to multi port injection. I was wondering if its possibe to take the stock TBI out and replace it with multiport enjection. Now I know the TPI motor is completly different but I saw this Holly StealthRam intake manifold and it said it was multiport fuel injected so I was wondering if I got that and put it in am I acomplishing the task I want to in replacing TBI with multiport injection. OR am I just a dumb kid with my head up my *** and Im not educated enough to know what the hell im talking about.... LOL

Thanx

you could do that... but your motor needs alot more than just changing the injector design, if you're trying to improve its performance.

The first worst thing about it is the exhaust. Every piece from the heads to the street needs to go. it has the small outlet manifolds, the tiny Y-pipe, the tiny cat that bolts to the tiny Y-pipe, and the small pipes behind that.

The next thing is the cam. YOu are stuck with the lamest cam Chevrolet ever put in a car. With any type of electronic fuel injection you have to be careful what you use, but there's alot of room for improvement.

The next bottleneck is the heads. The TBI motors, 305s and 350s, got a special design head with 'ramps" in the ports to make the mixture swirl, to keep the fuel from condensing in the intake. these ramps are also a huge obstruction to flow.

If you change those 3 things properly, you might astound yourself how much better the car will run.

If you don't change them, it's not going to matter whether you have 2 injectors or 8, you're still going to have a very limited engine.

Spend dome time on the TBI board and see what the people who are actually getting results are doing. Avoid the BS and the 'I'm planning" and "I heard" type of things, and pay attention only to cars that are going faster than they did when new.

Well, honestly.... TBI is actually QUITE an awesome set-up to have.

In my opinion... I MUCH prefer TBI over MPFI or SFI.

I know TBI isn't anywhere near as fancy pants looking as the TPI with it's flashy runners and cool looking throttle body...

But... TBI is soo easy to work on, with much less "stuff" going on.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE MPFI.. I have owned 3 Fieros (still own one) with the Multiport Fuel Injection set-up. I love it.

BUT... TBI is NOT a bad thing to have.

I assume you're looking for some better performance...

Well... the good thing about TBI.. is that it has the EASE of use of carbureted engines.. with the same miniscule amount of engine clutter.. but without the tuning problems of a carburetor. And the simplicity of a single injector.

In my opinion... you should start saving up for a nice 350 V8 rebuild...

You can get a nice 350 4-bolt from the want ads or something for maybe a couple hundred bucks...

Spend maybe $400 in performance parts (cams, rebuild parts better heads), and then $800 bucks in machine shop work... and drop that in, using your stock computer with just a larger injector...

yeah I got an 86 fiero and I love the thing. I wanted to get a V8 and drop it in my fiero but i live with my mom and my fiero is here with my dad for me to drive durring the summer. Ive always loved the look at a 3rd gen camaro and I fell in love with them so I searhced and found one and now im just trying to gater info and learn about the numorous things i can do to it.

I do have flowmaster 80 series exhaust on it and thats prolly the best thing that been done to it. I just see all these fancy things that rave about gaining more horse and I get excited. Ive read up more on the Stealth Ram and decided its not worth it at all. At least for my needs. It actualy shows a power loss at lower rpms. Well **** that wont do me no good when all im doing is driving it to school and stuff. Ill read up some more. Thanx guys you helped a lot...
