when I put the caprice engine in, I was told that I also need to get the jets for the 350 (assuming you too have a TBI I know nothing about the TPI) and I needed to pick up a different knock sensor.. Mind you my car runs like **** right now, but It ran at least a little better when I bought those parts..
Edit:
Alright I'm a retard, I thought you said you didn't change the injectors and the knock sensor, my bad.. in which case the Chip should be the problem (or so I thought in my case too). The MAF should be the same from car to car, because my car uses the MAP sensor and they are the exact same part number from 305-350. I replaced the chip though and I'm still getting too rich (9 mpg on the highway too rich or if you roll down your window you'll burn your eyes because of the fumes rich.) and the car has no power.. That's why it's going to the dealer, I switched everything I thought I needed and got the new chip and I still can't seem to get the darn thing to work. I guess we'll see what the dealer says about the problem.. I've been working on it for 2 months.. I give up now.

ahh yes.. Forgot to mention what happened..
Trivial actually.. Spark plug wires 6 and 8 got reversed, so essentially the car was running on a lopsided 6 cylinders.. Besides that the ECU was on it's way out the door so the MAP sensor wasn't readint accurately, and a whole slew of other problems.. (I didn't let GM touch my ECU.. no way I'm paying $80 for an ecu and 90 bucks labor)
That was my problem.. Figure out anything with yours?
Have you adjusted the throttle position cable? I had to change that a little too.. Also I don't know if the tpi has it, but the TBI had a TV valve. if you adjust that it adjusts timing somehow ( I assume by how much fuel the TBI allowed to pass into the engine)
Keep me posted.. Maybe I can help you out.
