4thgen Small Block Swap

Is it possible to swap a small block chevy into a 4th gen V6 camaro? I have looked high and low for a friend of mine for info on this and i hate posting non thirdgen related material, but this is a last resort. I am looking mainly for where you will buy motor mounts and if you can run a standard distributor and what not. thanks

As for the distributor i'd bet the only one to clear would be a divorced coil setup, the motor mounts, you'll have to swap in a K member from a V8 car and use the standard mounts from the LT1, accessories, you might be having some fun with.

Thanks for your help z28 racer. when you say divorced coil are you talking a coil that is not part of the distributor like a blaster 2? i am wondering if the distributor will even clear the firewall since the back half of 4th gen motors is like inside the firewall a ways lol. i was thinking of having him get one of those super low profile distributors. thanks again z28racer, anyone else?

Another thing you'll have to worry about is hood clearance, i'd guess the only thing that may fit would be a minirammed small block, yes I do mean a remote mounted coil, non in cap, as the in caps are larger, you may want to do some searching on www.camaroz28.com to see if you can find some of those who have converted, or maybe if he's serious, maybe running a TEC II / III direct fire setup, or he may want to look into the existing two 4th gen motors.

i think i am gonna try and talk him into an LT1. he is buying a 4" cowl hood from his work through glasstech, so hood clearance shouldnt be too bad but you are right, F.I. setups are probably the only thing that will fit under a 4th gen's hood. out of curiosity how much does a complete junkyard LT1 usually run, a good deal on one and what is the most he should consider paying. also, he thinks that his tranny will work with a v8 but i am almost sure that the bellhousings are different. thanks again for your help man!

Bellhousing is completely different, will he be doing a stick or auto ? this plays a big role in the cost of the dropout, and with the way prices are on 93-95 Z28's, he might be better off just selling the car and getting one, considering the fuel lines are different, driveshaft, non posi rear, drum brakes, dash cluster, not sure which wiring will have to be changed, all of that will quickly add up......
