hood clearance
I'm about to put a 350 in my T/A but I am afraid of the hood clearance... The engine will be carbed but as I see with my 305, it is rather tight... so will it fit? I'd hate to change my hood... plus I'd like to put a rather mean intake in it... what are my possibilities?

305
edelbrock performer intake
edelbrock carb
14x4" air cleaner
the air cleaner throws it off, but still it is pretty tight, so you MIGHT need a new hood
i want to get a carb spacer too which is gonna screw things up even worse

305 & 350 are identical externally. If a 305 fits, a 350 will.
Now if you go changing stuff on top of it and putting taller things on, that's a different matter. Firebird hoods are well known for causing clearance problems. You are extremely limited as to what will fit. Your best place to start would be to measure the clearance you have now, and then figure out how much more you can jam in there.

Say bye bye to a flat base air cleaner too. If you're lucky, you might be able to get a drop base to work as long as your element isn't too big.

i have a flat bottom 14x2 hood clearence is nonexistnce the air cleaner touches the hood. click link in sig for info.
I put a carbed 350 in place of my 305 TPI in my '86 IROC. I used a string to measure and I will need an extra 2"+. I am using Edelbrock Vortec Performer with Edelbrock performer carb, and Edelbrock 14 X 3 filter assembly. I ordered the Big Block hood from Hawks for $379. It should be plenty of clearance for me(3")
