harness illiterate seeking knowledge
well here i am with another question on my project.
(95 LT1 swap in 92 Z28)
i got two harnesses, a stock 95 one and a painless kit, which i hear has other nick names. my question is:
when i put in the 95 harness, i notice it is only to run the engine and tranny. do i leave the stock harness and computor to run the other stuff in the car, or do i pull it out? this is a mystery to my inexperienced mind. i am baffled, and of corse the "painless" instructions do not help. please help me, i am lost again.

basically, you cut out the ENTIRE original harness and computer, none of it is needed except for the fuel pump enable, VATS if you have it, and the gauges. except for a few power wires, everything else is junk.

so at the expense of looking dumb, im gonna ask for more. the new harness and computor will run all else? what power wires are needed? the 95 cruise will work? how do i make it all like i never changes anything, like the check engine light and such? if i use the stock harness from the 95 do i still bypass the vats? anything else you can offer to help would be good to.
well, to be honest I dont know off the top of my head which power wires you need to connect, you would need to get detailed wiring diagrams for your year car to figure that out. as far as I know the cruise does not go through the computer, so that should not change. the check engine light again should be just one wire output from the computer, no big deal to hook up. using the stock '95 harness does NOT bypass VATS, you will need to remove the original and get a new one.

but doesnt the harness that comes out of the firewall on the drivers side run head lights n stuff? it has two parts, one goes rorward to the front of the car and the other across the firewall. do i yank all of that or do i leave the half of the plug that goes forward in the car? am i confusing you as much as myself? i can picture it in my head but i dont know how to describe it.

so i leave the chasis harness in? that makes sense if thats true. so where the injection harness plugs into the firewall on the driver's side with the chasis harness stays empty? it came across the firewall and met up with the chasis harness, and the two plugs conect to each other and then plug into the firewall.
