400 small block in my 85
400 small block in my 85
I'm planning on putting an early 70's 400 SB in my '85 Trans AM.
I was wondering if there's anything I should consider before I do this like cooling problems or wether my 700r4 will bolt up or not? Cause I heard the torque converter doesn't bolt to the block.
Help me Out!

Welcome to the board! If you have a v-8 car now, It will be a simple engine swap.....the 700r4 will bolt up to the 400....do a search on the topic and you will find MUCH info on the 400csb. Have a great day!

You'll love it. Compared to a 305, it just floats when you push on the gas. No effort at all, it just flyes Just plan ahead on what you want (rpm wise). Once you go past 4500 rpm, you need a lot better intake system, heads, etc. That will be a big part of your budget. Torque convertor bolt up takes some thinking. I had to find a flex plate that had a 700R4 bolt pattern, and then I used a stock 400 starter. Chose you cam correctly the first time. You can always change the heads later to better ones with the engine in the car.
