l98, lt1 or ls1??
l98, lt1 or ls1??
im finally getting around to doing something with my 91 z28 'vert w/my tax return money im gonna do apperance mods (hood, rims, tires and paint) im getting a good bit back
but anyways, this summer i want to do something about the power and i have no idea what to do. should i get a l98 tpi and a t56 and build it into a 300-350 hp motor and supercharge it, or get an lt1/t56 combo add lt4 equipment and supercharge it, or get an ls1/t56 add ls6 equipment and supercharge it?
i usually run across camaro and vette l98 for usually $1200 and lower complete with computer/harness everything.
and ive ran across lt1's and lt4's for around $1500+ ($3000+ w/t56)
and ive ran across ls1's for around $2500+ (3500+ w/t56)
im leaning towards get a l98 out of a 91 z28 what do ya'll think and whats the difference between the camaro and vette's other than iron and aluminum heads, b-cuz im being told the vette motor is 240 hp and that just doesnt sound right to me, b-cuz isnt the camaro 245 hp for (90-92 z's?)
or should i just keep the 305 and put heads/cam do tons of porting to the tpi and build it up for supercharging?
let me know what ya'll think.

I would try to determine what you want to spend and give yourself at least $600 reserve for incidental expenses. Once you have a figure in mind you can then make a better decision on your swap.
L98/305 probably the most bang for the buck.
LT1/LT4 more power still plenty of aftermarket support. More complex and costly swap. Tunable PCM
LS1 most efficient and tunable can produces tons of clean power. Some stock LS1 f-cars have been known to put down over 310 RWHP. 100LBS lighter than L98/LT1. Most complex and expensive swap. Takes mods well, but more expensive.

depends on budget and needs....
LS1 is nice if you get a deal and only that, the power is easily surpased for the price hands down.
owning a LS1 used to be the hot thing in a thirdgen, they are becoming very common in all sorts of vehicles so the price is coming down. still not practicle like a standard sb chevy build.
biggest thing is to be realistic.
pick your budget and stick to it; understand that if you have 6,000 put 4,000 into the engine itself and the rest into the extras.
it's the people who use the whole 6g's that soon run out of funds and can't finish there project.

If you can afford it definitly go with the LS1, that is by far the best engine available without entering big block territory. If that is out of your price range I would go with the LT1 swap. With all the necessary LT4 conversion mods, that will be one hot little engine. The only reason I wouldn't go with the L98 is ecause of the induction setup. TPI has a tendency to run out of breath after 5000 rpms. The other engines, especially the LS1 have much better induction setups. Plus the after market is huge for them! Good luck with whatever you choose!
aftermarket is large for the LS1 and growing but it's high priced.
just because you have a L98 block doesn't mean your limited to low 5,000 redline...
advantages of that block are evident in prices alone. go 4 bolt for extra insurance, throw some good heads and intake and there will be no stock ls1 or lt1 that can hang for the same price.
go a little wild and the same people will have to spend at least 1/4 more than you just to keep up.
