The F-body is of a uni-body construction, does not have one solid frame, but many small frames tied all together..... which is weaker and more suceptible to bending, or giving under stress....

The strut tower brace ties the drivers side to the passenger side to help distribute distortional stress(normally seen during cornering) evenly throughout the front chasis.
