355 + T5 Question

I will be installing a carbed 355 this summer into my 91 RS, stripping the smog equip/hoses/ecm/ac everything. Now, I have a question, which should be simple.

I will be using my WC T5 in unison with this engine, and I was curious if:

- Does it matter if the engine is 2 or 4 bolt block main?

- Does it matter if the if its a 1 or 2 piece seal?

Keep in mind, I have heard all the rhetoric about a T5 not lasting. However, I believe it should be fine, the way I drive. Just a daily driver, and maybe if I get bolder, some trips to the track. If anyone runs a T5 with a high horsepower setup, I am all ears. Thanks for the help.

the difference between 2 bolt and 4 bolt mains is internal to the motor, the only thing they do is make the bottom end stronger.

the rear main seal is a different matter though, the flywheel is specific to what type of main seal it came from. in your case it came from a 91 which is a one piece main, so it will need to go back on a one piece seal motor, or you can buy a flywheel that will fit a two piece seal if you can only find a motor that is two piece. it shouldn't matter to the tranny what flywheel it is only the motor cares.

So basically a 2 or 4 bolt should bolt up fine on my car?

For a stout street 350, 2 bolt blocks are more than strong enough, but 4 bolt blocks can take alot more abuse than a 2 bolt. But the 4 bolt really only has an advantage at about 500hp+

You will need a new flywheel. I put a 350 4 bolt into my 88 Formula. I needed and internally balanced flywheel for a pre 86 engine. Make sure it's a 153 tooth flywheel and not the 168. If it's the 168 you will need a new bellhousing from a 93 firebird with an LT1 and 5 speed. I tried that but the GM dealership in my home town gives a 6 cylinder part number. As for power, I'm making 300 hp and 375 lbs feet and I've had no problems with my T5. When the rear starts hopping cause it's hooking up I let go of the gas so I don't break anything. Hope you enjoy you're new found power, cause I did.
