305tpi-350tpi straight swap. whats diff??

ok heres my situation...follow closely, cuz i even manage to confuse myself... I have a 88 IROC Z camaro (wrecked in back) and a 86 IROC Z camaro, (no motor)) ..can you see where i'm going yet... ok i wanna swap the 305 tpi from the 88 into the 86. both were 305 tpi automatics with a/c , ok so thats all happy and nice...but now here comes the kicker..i have a late 80's block, with heads, possibly a 89 vette tpi motor(centerbolt heads etc), (that motor was in my 79 vette, i swapped in a 96 LT1 sold that block and now just managed to get it back) so, i wanna put the 88 Iroc 305 TPI unit on "89" 350 block and put that then in the 86 Iroc...so my questions is..."What is different from the 305 TPI's and the 350 TPI's??" ...so far i was told....injectors and chip...is that all? can i use the 88 computer and swap in a aftermarket prom ordered for a 88 350 TPI? Injectors i'd upgrade anyway due to the 350 has some mild work, ie cam(not positive what else) so i was guessing somewhre in the 26-32lb injector range...someone said fuel pump but i worked on a few fbodys and im pretty sure all tpi pumps put out the same pressure. i as told that the distributor and tpi base will fit 305/350 no problem. i know all accersories will swap right over. and i know the 700r4 tranny will bolt right up to the 350 as well(duh lol) like i said before, Ive owned and worked on many fbodys but never did a swap like this so any help would be appreciated. Thank you. -paul:lala:

oh and one more thing....please dont tell me to search the board for answers to this topic...i tried...for the past hour and a half ive been reading posts with a mis-match of info, and im just about to bash my brains in with my keyboard...but bascially i learned what i already thought. ive seen some people saying port plenums and such....im not going for high hp, just a car that can hold its own, it will be female driven most likely by the summer.... I do have a set of iron camaro centerbolt 350 heads i will most likely be porting and using (i think the vette block had iron heads put on anyway...its not in my garage yet) I just want a rundown, a listing, of the different pasrt i need to get,... injectors and prom so far. if anything else, just let me know thanks again...

the knock sensor is also different, but it sounds like the 350 would already have that installed

BTW, why do you want to swap the TPI units? wasn't '90 the year GM switched to speed density?

As for the fuel pumps, I think you're right as to the fuel pressure. But do they put out the same *volume* ie do the pumps on the 305 cars push enough fuel fast enough at pressure to feed the 350s?

yeah, the 89 block has the knock sensor still in it. As to switching tpi units, the thing is, the only TPI unit i have is the one off the 88 iroc, the 89 motor is just block, heads, and internals, no tpi intake was there. In my 79 vette the tpi was replaced with a intake manifold and carb when i bought it. Thats why i pulled the motor out, sold intake and carb, then sold the longblock to a friend, and to date the motor has still been untouched sitting in a garage. with the fuel pumps, im just gonna go to a parts store and have them look up the part #'s for a 88 305 pump and a 88 350 pump... if the numbers match, all good, if not, ill buy the 350 then. so if anyone has anymore advice or comments about my swap, just let me know. thanks. -Paul
