fuel lines on 88 efi to 71 carb swap

Ok let me give yall the run down on this.

I bought a 88 camaro that already had a 71 350 put in it, the car came stock with a 2.8 L v-6...

They had the 350 running in it, but I sure dont understand how with way they had the fuel line..

The supply line, and canister line was'nt hooked up, the return line was ran to the mech. fuel pump on the engine, the elec. fuel pump fuse was pulled..

How was this working???

What should I do to streighten all this b/s out to work on the engine after I rebuild it to the tune of about 390 hp 410 ft lbs.. This will be my daily driver so I wanna do it cheap as I can but as safe as I can..

Would the stock 2.8L elec fuel pump feed a 390 hp 355, turning to about 6300 rpm? If it will can I use a cheap $25 adjustable non return reg. and just plug the return line?

If The OEM elec pump won't feed my engine then how would I run a mech fuel pump? Will I have to pull the elec pump out of the tank, then run a return style mech pump?

Any help on this will be great
Thanks
John

Maybe they hooked up different fuel pump to the return line and used that instead of using the stock fuel pump so they didn't have to remove it. Would this work?

fast89RS.... Yeah that's what they did, but myself I did'nt think you could draw fuel from the return side..

On other cars that I have built if they came with a return line and I did'nt use a return type fuel pump or reg. I just left the return line open. No fuel ever came out, but if you pull the supply line off fuel will run out. That's why I dont understand how it's able to suck fuel from the return line, plus the return line is about half the size of the supply line
