I have a 305TPI in my 89GTA, have found a 96LT1 out of a firebird at a local salvage yard.. It is the motor, intake, water pump.. etc missing flywheel and starter I believe.. anyway. I can get this puppy for $1000 cdn and another $300 for the harness & ECM. But without the rest of the car, what would I be getting into? sensor and accessories wise?

Thanks..

Go for it. It will be a completely different car when it's done.

You'll need o2 sensors which are best bought new and everything else should be on the motor already. Actually, that sounds like a good price. While you're at it, you may as well t56 it also

what about MAF ? Will my 89 setup work? and the smog stuff. Does it have to be there? my local laws are pretty relaxed for pre 91's. I don't have to have a converter either. I also don't really want to be driving a 10mpg car when everyone else with the same setup gets 18-20mpg. Are there things that I don't have to put on? That really make 0 difference on or off?

You will need the MAF and Intake Temp Sensor. Those are on the cold air intake into the motor. Being that it is a 96 motor, it is OBD II. Any 3rd gen headers will do, as will 3rd gen exhaust manifolds I believe. I can't think of any other sensors off the top of my head that you'd need other than what is already bolted to the motor.

ok.. the intake "hose" is not there, so i will assume it does not come with the intake air sensor or MAF... will have to see if they'll through them in .. manifolds from the 305 are going on the 305 .. header will be on the 350.. any suggestions there?

Thanks

For this, there are dozens of different opinions but I believe the popular choice is SLP. I have Hookers myself and they seem to work ok so far.
