Connecting 97 LT1 motor to 700R4..

Okay, my friend is swapping an LT1 into his 88. He has a 97 block from a Corvette, and heads and intake from a Camaro. He has a strokerkits.com stroker kit to convert it to a 383. But we have many questions, LOL.

What is the easiest way to install his motor and connect it to his 700-R4? He doesn't have the harness or ECU yet so what should we purchase? We don't want to lose the MAF.

Also, I assume the accessories will not work? Correct? What brackets and pulleys should we use? It won't initially have AC. Thanks.

I would bet that a 383C.I.D. LT1 would be one mean *****. I don't know about your accessories but from what I have read on this site the 700R4 should work fine. You may want to beef it up a little bit though. At least until you do don't be too hard on it.

sounds like its going to be one mean engine.

do you mean actually getting it into the car? easiest way is to drop the engine in with headers already on it, leave the bolts out and let it tilt back, bolt the transmission on it, jack the tail shaft up and bolt the crossmember up, then bolt up the motor mount bolts. Since you dont have a harness it would be easiest to get an aftermarket one, but I can't suggest one because I used the stock harness.

If you plan to put a/c on it ever then the vette accessories are actually preferred because you wont have to notch the frame and the hose connections will be simplified.

If you plan on using a 700R4 you will need a throttle body for a 93. It can be for a manual or auto because they made them both the same in 93. The reason you need this is for the tv cable. You will also need a tv cable that is made for the 93 because the tpi one is the wrong length. I know you can use the 93 throttle body on a 94-95 without a problem, but you will need to check to see if the obdII LT1's use the same tps and iac and have the same connections. If the sensors will work then it will bolt right up.

Yeah, we haven't decided on the headwork that will be done or the cam yet, but the bottom end has a SCAT cast 3.750" crank, SCAT 6" 4340 forged rods, and Probe forged pistons. I believe Probe pistons are made by Ross but don't quote me on that one.

http://www.strokerkits.com/383_lt1_stroker_kits.htm

Check it out, only 1250. You can get a forged crank if you wish too but I don't think he'll push it much past 500hp if that so I don't think the cast is a worry here.

Actually physically installing the motor we can handle. I was just concerned about the tranny hook up. The transmission will bolt up fine, then? Is there a way to hook up a TV cable to the 97 throttle body? I would guess a kit for that would be cheaper than the new throttle body, but we can always go junkyarding.

Is there any place online that sells corvette brackets and pulleys? He may have A/C eventually, we probably should plan for that.

Really I'm not a huge F-body guy, I like the cars but my knowledge on the 3rd and 4th gens is not the best. So if any of my questions seem dumb.. sorry

I think this will be a huge from his TBI 305 LOL. I'll have to do some more bolt ons to my Duster to beat him again

Ya, Street and Performance sells them with the accessories.
We put them on my friends LT1 that we installed into his 82.
The bracket with all the accessories was almost $1,000.
