Lt1 swap help
Lt1 swap help
Allright guys i'm going to apologize now if i ask something that can be searched for, i've tried and i'm playing with time now.
Heres the deal:
I basically bought a 95 buick roadmaster,it has the lt1 and 4l60E transmission. I am trying to swap it into my 84' camaro with a 305 and 700R4 transmission.
the guy who is helping me is used to older engines and basically knows squat about the lt1, i am useless as i have never attempted anything this complicated.
Anyways, i was told that the transmission from the roadmaster is a column shift while my transmission is floor shift. Will this matter or can it be converted? If it can be, then How? Another concern is the driveshaft. will the Shaft from my car work? Lastly, what is opti-spark? is it wise to replace it while i've got the engine out? WHat else would be smart to do while i've got the engine out. Oh yeah, one more question, will the abs brakes from the roadmaster swap onto my car? I can get an insurance dicaount that would offset the cost of putting in a 350 and i can have whatever i want off the car.
Anyways thanks for all of the help you can give. I would appreciate any help asap as i have to pick up the engine this week and if the transmission won't work i don't want to buy it.
Sorry for the long post and thanks
Jared

Yes you can use your driveshaft. You can also re-use your old shifter cable/hardware with minor creativity. I dont see you using the ABS easily. You could use a complete rear end with all the ABS stuff attached but that will require 4th gen wheels or spacers for proper fitment. The front I have no idea.

The rear end from the Roadmaster would not work. One thing is that it doesn't have provisions for a torque arm. Another is the bolt pattern for the wheels is different. If you did get it in there, you'd need two different bolt patterned wheels for the car which makes no sense. Your stock ones for the front and ones from say an Impala for the rear. It'd be easier to get a 4th gen rear in there which would bolt right in but would make your wheels stick out 2" on both sides of the car. The fronts would not work at all BTW.

He had 4th gen wheels all around with spacers up front but he traded me those wheels and spacers for these wheels since he needed tires and the wheels I had had nearly new Eagle GSC tires.

hey guys thanks for the help... sorry for not responding, i moved this week and mom forgot to tell me that we wouldn't have internet for a week or so.
new problem is that the guy helping me wants me to have everything ready and researched before i start. The problem is that the car was a front end collision so it is missing radiator and fans. Does anyone know where to get replacements? the only thing i have found around here is an aftermarket setup and i would to try to keep it as stock lt1 as possible. Oh yeah, how can i tell if its a baby lt1, for what i'm spending this better be a 350 or im takin it back.
thanks again

On the back of the block, top drivers side, it will either say 5.7LG or 4.3LG. 5.7 is the 350 and 4.3 is the 265.
