Important info on v6 to v8 swaps

If your swapping a v6 to a v8 and your keeping a v6 manual trans then make sure to cut an 1/8" off of the end of the input shaft. I learned this the hard way after starting it and trying to put it in reverse, didnt happen. plus the squealing noise was pretty bad. i just swappped my 3.1L for a 350 tpi with the stock t5 still in the car.

i didn't know you could keep the original tranny. would that work with a 2.8 to 350 swap?

swap

Hi all, I am new to the forums and am now addicted to this site!
I recently bought my first third gen. A 1988 Camaro 2.8/700R-4 with power everything and ground effects for $850.00. I have it almost ready for paint and plan on spraying it next week.
I am going to put a 350 and a new 700R-4 in this fall. My question is what year is a good one for a 350. I am looking at going carburated and putting it on the stand and building it right over the next several months.
I work at Ford Motor Co. lol and am not too familiar with the hi-po years of the 350.

Any help would be appreciated!

Dave

if it was a 700R-4 trans you would have to get a V-8 trans... but with non-atuos you can just replace the bellhouseing on it

I just drove my car with the new 350 and v6 manual trans. damn that thing moves. it rips thru first and second like nothing. almost hit some parked cars. i think most 350's are the same from the 50's till now with the exception of the vortec heads and how they switched to external crank balancing and one piece seals.

There was no 350 in the 50's!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 1st chevy v-8 was in 1955 it was the 265 cid.

Then the 283, 327, 302, 350, 400

The 302 and 350 came out in the same year 1967!!!!

If your wanting to rebuild one yourself then the year don't really matter, cause no matter what the stock HP rating was it will be 100% diff after you rebuild it depending on parts you use.

Myself I like older 2 pc. seal blocks from the mid 70's for 350 cid.

In 1986 they changed to center bolt valve covers and 1 pc. rear seals. The intake bolt holes are also alittle diff.

Most of the 70's truck 350's was 4 bolt main blocks. To me that don't mean much though cause stock 4 bolt main blocks aint really no stronger than the 2 bolt blocks. The outer bolts are placed in the main webbing.
