Now that ppl manufacture and sell motor and tranny mounts it should be a pretty striaght forward swap.

I was going to go T-56 but I am glad I did not. I have been reading about common problems such as 3/4 shift forks bending. Also, the slave cylinder has a tendancy to stick causing all sorts of headaches.
The 4L60E will be easier on the drivetrains and require less modification as well. Put a good converter in there and you will be good to go.

how much of a pain was it rewiring your cars for the ls1, ive got a 92 LO3 and am considering doing this swap myself, how much did it cost for the swap, how long did it take, and was all the hassle worth it. Also would i be able to keep my t5 or would i have to get a t56

how mich modification to the unibody of the car would be needed to handle an LS1. and also the rear end right now my car has a 2.73.

The swap is not cheap, but it is becoming more affordable. Engine, trans mounts, and wiring harness for the swap are available through the aftermarket.
I had Spohn SFCs installed to handle the extra power. If you want to keep the A/C you will have to notch the frame, or use alternative/corvette mounting brackets or some combination thereof.
You will need to switch to a T-56 for this conversion. There is a difference in the input shaft. It may be resolved by installing another shaft. I am not aware if this has been done in the past.
I would recomend going from a 2.73 to a 3.23 rear as I did. Nevertheless, the 10 bolt can not take much abuse under this horsepower. If you are talking track time you need to beef it up or go 12 bolt.
In my opinion it is worth it. YES! The LS1 is 150 LBS lighter than the iron block V8. Others who have done the swap are running high 11's (with mimimal mods), low to mid 12s (stock) while attaing 20+MPG city to 28+ highway, and passing emissions.:hail:
