Sb 420

Has anybody put one in their car yet? I saw somebody had plans to do it and saw the short block for sale in a magazine.

It's a 400 with a 3.875" stroke crank. Nothing particularly radical. Would bolt right in like any other small block, except that you'd have to be real careful about how it was balanced, and use the right crank damper and flywheel / flex plate accordingly.

Personally I wouldn't bother with a motor that small; If I was going to spend the money to stroke (and I probably will do it to mine), I'd put in a 4" stroke crank, which gives a 427 (or 434 with the usual .030" overbore). Cost is about the same; why leave cubic inches on the table?

I ahve to agree with RB83L69. We've all heard that one before 305 to stroke or not, just get a 350 ect. ect.

But it's your car and if you want the uniquiness of having a 420 CID go for it.
