part LT1, part gen 1 SBC?

Well, sitting here brainstorming, I had a couple ideas.

What if I ordered an LT1 intake from john millican that retained the stock mounting holes, and just put on a set of LT4 heads? They flow pretty good for what they are and I can get a set kinda cheap. I could also keep the HEI and wiring harness.

Problems that I see: I have no idea if I could use the rest on my access. with an LT1 water pump.

My whole idea for wanting to do this is to take advantage of the reverse cooling heads and I want to get rid of the TPI stuff altogether. It's either this or HSR, and this woudl give me enough clearance under the hood of my 'Bird.

LT1 Cost:

400 - intake
500 - alum LT4 heads
150 - fuel lines and remote t-stat
????? - water pump
1050 not including water pump

HSR cost:

500 - intake
900 - pro topline 180cc iron heads
100 - fuel line
1500 besides odd and ends

Can anyone help me? Which one woudl make more power? Is it worth it?

Thanx,
Herb

if I understand what your asking?? unless you have the LT-1 block you won't be able to use the LT-4 heads (without machine work), the block is the biggest difference in the cooling flow, I have seen alot of posts for the lt-1 intake on a standard sbc block, it's not that hard to convert a lt-1 intake for a standard block. it's my understanding that you can reuse the tpi computer and harness (with some mods) to run the fuel injection on the lt-1. also you can't use the lt-1 water pump on a standard block, they are vastly different.

thanks for the reply. That's what I was thinking but a guy down at a local machine shop said the blocks are virtually the same. I figured they weren't and had to get on here to check.

Thanks,
Herb
