I need to rebuild the 3.1 in my 90 camaro. I know the 3.1 has a different block then other V-6's, but is there another size v-6 that can be bolted in without any mods or should I just plan on rebuilding the original 3.1?
The car is going to be for my daughter, so a small block or big block is out of the question.
Also, is there anything I ought to be warned about, when rebuilding a 3.1?
Thanks

Im not sure about the 3.1...but I know the 2.8 had oiling problems. Im sure they were taken care of before GM bored out the 2.8 to make the 3.1. I think you can even make the 3.1 to a 3.4....but not sure. My gf's cutlass has a 3.1 in it. I had it rebuilt last winter, and the guy said it looked perfect inside. I cant think of anything to be warned about....seems to be a decent motor...good luck

Get a 3.4 short block and use all of the top end stuff off of the 3.1.Originally posted by bruce90rs

Do a search on the V6 forum for a complete list of what is compatible.
I agree with DaGoat. I replaced my 2.8 with a 3.4 crate motor from GM. Check the tech articles for info on the swap.
One other thing. I paid about $1700 for the 3.4. I had one mechanic tell me he couldn't rebuild the 2.8 for that "and do it right."
