can a 400ci firebird pull front tires
wondering how much cash it would take to make a carbed 400 firebird to pull front tires with 3.73 gears. i have exhaust system headers and 3" pipes and a few other small things. just wondering if it can be done for under 1500 or should i just sell it and get a 383

Front drag springs
MT ET Streets (28x10x15)
NX Hitman or NOS Cheater Kit jetted between 100-150
Ditch the sway bar
Relocate your battery to the trunk and get all excess weight off front tires
3000-3500 stall
Assuming your car has a decent performing 400, that should be about what you need. A 400 should make more torque than a 383, so technically it should be easier to pull the front tires with a 400 than it would be with a comparable 383.

so what youd need is a huge peice of rock or metal.... place it in the back. the effect your tring to get is to have the center of balance over those rear tires, when the weight is distributed right, you should be able to pick the front up with your hands..... then it should pick up the front tires, and vwalala for under 1.5k!!!
actully, just the drag springs, nos and shocks, and no sway bar, and a new stall, or clutch, possibly tires! otherwise your probly just goona get a lot of cool smoke, eather way, if you try it, send us a pic

ya.. what about not messing w/ the weight, cept for maybe battery... and.. then how much power would you need to get the front tires off?
Is 500lbs torque good enough w/ 2. something gears? in the rear end? Automatic though. and more than 530 hp.

i think its more about chassis setup then a power amount.
if you've ever seen some wheelstanders up close, you'll see what i mean... some have just docile 350s..... nothing special
the trick to getting the front wheels in the air is to do 2 things...
hook the tires hard enough.
have the weight in such a way that its easier for the car to go up then the car to go forward...
two things you can do with the weight are either move it towards the back... or move it UP and raise the center of gravity...
so you could make it do it.... but it would be just for show.... real racers dont want the front wheels far off the ground, they just want as much weight on the rear tires as they need for launch... going up any further wastes time.....
if you really want to do it, the drag springs and shocks are the way to go....
if you want to do it on the cheap, put worn (useless) shocks/struts on... they wont try to keep the car down..
