3.1->?
hi, i just got a 92 firebird 3.1 and i've looked around and i was wondering what would be the cheapest way to achieve low to mid 14's. whether its a 3.4 swap? or 3.8? or just goin to a v8 and stuff. Keep in mind it has to be some what cheap(student with part-time job).

14's the cheapest, sell current car & get a V8. seriously. Even my swap hit the 14's unless I use the economical "super juice"

not exactly the answer i was lookin for... so their is no way to get to 14's without a v8... what about a 3.4 with cams and bored over and the works?
well 14's are possible with pretty much any engine, however a 3.4 will be harder to put in the 14s then a v8 would be. the 3.8 is a good swap if you know how to mod it. there are a few decent cams out for the 3.8, but none that are very good. a v8 swap is pretty easy, since the 3rd gen was made for a v8 too. do a search on the v8 swap to find out what is involved. i've seen a few 3.8 swaps in 3rd gens, but i dont know if anyone on TGO has done the swap yet to get infomation from.
good luck
btw, once you hit 14's, you will want to keep going faster and faster

I knowof at least 1 person doing a 3800 swap in a third gen here on TGO
It looks like this in a Frost Beige engine bay:
Fastest n/a time for a 3.4 over at firebirdv6.com is a 15.4 w/manual, 15.6 w/auto.
The power adders ones 13.5 turbo, 13.9 sticks each, 14 & 14.4 auto.
All depends on how you want to get there & how much you want to spend overall

also checkout THIS
FWIW, I paid $210 for the 3.4, $200 for the 3800, 4L60E, ecm & harness.
Just gotta make those connections. Networking is good
